Shifting the focus to the time span, we may need to measure some "Interim Metrics", which give us some insight during the journey itself, as well as we need to measure some "Final Metrics" at the end of the journey to inform use if the overall initiative was successful or not. As an example, most of social media metrics and indicators such as likes, shares and engagement comments may be classified as interim metrics while the final increase/decrease in sales volume is clearly from the final category.

Here is where many websites make a mistake. The call to action often asks the prospect to take some action. However, visitors thought often asks, “Why should I subscribe?” or “What is there for me?” Rather than ask visitors to do something, offer them something. The call to action should be in the form of promise or value offer to the reader. Customize the submit button to attract the reader. For example, you can use “send me free tips” instead of submit, “Get instant access” instead of join or “give me access” instead of subscribe.

The biggest issue I have yet to resolve is the majority of clients I work with have customer lists in the the THOUSANDS, but have never embraced email marketing. Through personal experience with several of the platforms listed here they will not let you load your current customer list and start emailing. Even if the lists are validated and cleaned through a source like NeverBounce. With the new GDPR rules, they only want emails that have current, ongoing engagement. So in other words, even though you have been in business for years and have a list of current emails from current and past customers, you cannot load them in to these platforms with any success. This makes it very difficult for legacy businesses that now want to start communicating with all their prospects and customers.
This can be done any number of ways, from using a lead generation form on your site, offering an incentive such as exclusive content or special offers, and sending the email to your existing client list, to using a pop-up sign-up box on your site, or asking followers to sign up via social media. Find what works best for you to build a list of prospects.
Auto-responders are an excellent offer or follow-up when someone gives up their email address. A short, topical sequence of 3-6 emails that deliver value to the reader are particularly effective. Linking back to your website or blog for ‘read-more’ achieves good tracking opportunities too. There are many email systems that will support and deliver this.
